About
Welcome to Casa Portugal, a vibrant culinary oasis nestled at 1200 Cambridge St, Cambridge, MA. This restaurant is not just a eatery; it’s an embodiment of Portuguese culture, where every dish tells a story, and every bite transports you to the sun-soaked shores of Portugal. Casa Portugal has quickly established itself as a favorite among locals, especially those with roots in Portuguese and Brazilian heritage, embodying an authentic charm that is hard to ignore.
As Jea Kim describes, stepping into Casa Portugal feels like entering a beloved family kitchen. The inviting atmosphere melds with the lively hustle and bustle of patrons enjoying classic Portuguese fare. The menu features a variety of traditional dishes, but a standout highlight is the flamboyant Grilled Portuguese Sausage. Served ablaze, this dish captivates diners with its crispy outer layer, yielding to a juicy, rich interior—a textural harmony that makes for an exhilarating start to any meal.
For seafood lovers, the clams cooked in olive oil and garlic wine sauce are a revelation. Their preparation remains true to the philosophy of minimal seasoning, allowing the fresh ocean flavors to shine. As Wenzhu Sun affirms, the Arroz de Marisco is a must-try, capturing the essence of coastal cuisine with every mouthful. Meanwhile, the Mariscada a Costa Brava, a delightful medley of seafood, promises to satiate any craving for the ocean’s bounty.
The Bife à Portuguesa is another highlight—this hearty dish comprises fried steak, ham, and a fried egg. It may appear simple at first glance, but each bite reveals layers of flavor that are incredibly comforting. This is the essence of Casa Portugal: a celebration of quality, tradition, and genuine taste. As Dan Drago attests, dishes like Octopus and Garlic Shrimp are not only delicious, but also present an opportunity to rediscover the one-of-a-kind flavors that define Portuguese cuisine.
Whether you prefer dining indoors or under the stars on the lit outdoor patio, the atmosphere at Casa Portugal enhances the experience, inviting you to linger a little longer and explore more of their enticing menu. As Sarah eagerly expresses, a return visit is an absolute must, and with so many delectable options available, it’s easy to see why the sentiment is shared by many.
Moreover, all of this is accompanied by commendable service, with team members like Kevin ensuring that your dining experience is both pleasant and memorable. While there may be a small fee for non-cash payments, the value and quality of the dishes offered at Casa Portugal far outweigh any minor inconveniences.
In summary, Casa Portugal is more than just a restaurant; it’s a heartfelt homage to Portuguese culinary tradition. With every dish steeped in authenticity and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, it is a gem worth visiting over and over again. If you haven’t discovered this local treasure yet, take it from the patrons—your only regret will be not having come sooner!
“ A bustling local gem that radiates an authentic charm, serving traditional Portuguese delicacies in a cozy, unpretentious setting. Casa Portugal’s popularity among locals, particularly those of Portuguese and Brazilian descent, is a testament to the place's genuineness. On my recent visit, we started off with the flamboyant Grilled Portuguese Sausage, arriving ablaze at our table. Contrary to its seemingly dry exterior, it unveiled a juicy, fat-laden interior, with a crisp outer layer adding a textural delight. The clams in olive oil and garlic wine sauce were also exquisitely cooked, with the simplicity of the seasonings allowing the freshness of the ingredients to take center stage. The Bife a Portuguesa, a wholesome ensemble of fried steak, ham, and fried egg, was hearty and comforting. Even though it came across as a simple dish, the quality and flavors surpassed any typical steak and eggs combo at regular diners. Casa Portugal epitomizes the essence of homely Portuguese food, offering excellent, no-fuss dishes and swift service. The eatery's philosophy of minimal seasoning ensures that the ingredients' natural flavors shine through, truly showcasing the essence of traditional Portuguese fare. Looking back, my only regret is not discovering this place sooner. A revisit to explore more of their menu is unequivocally on the cards. ”
“ Food was great! We ordered Mariscada a Costa brava, Arroz de marisco, octopus (on special menu) and a few oysters. You can find the full menu on their website. We liked everything, especially Arroz de marisco. A couple of surprises: 1) While some of the dishes have half lobster listed in the ingredients on the menu (like the first two we ordered); if you do wish to have the lobster in there, it's extra 5 per dish in addition to the listed price shown on the menu. 2) There is a no-cash fee being added to the bill, if you are paying with card. Other than that, food was great! ”
“ Amazing meal! Loved the lit up outdoor patio. Can’t wait to come back. ”
“ Very good choice for Portuguese food. We had the Octopus and Garlic Shrimp. Will have to come back and try out more dishes. Very nice decor, clean restaurant and friendly service from our server Kevin (thank you!) . Highly recommended. ”
“ Giving five stars for the fact that they put free bread on the table. Good value and service, although it’s true that they charge about 3.7% for non-cash payments. ”
“ My wife and I love Casa. It is one of the first places we tried when moving to Boston. She comes from a Portuguese family, and this place does a fantastic job bringing that home cooked meal feel with delicious dishes. Her staples are the Portuguese soup and the fried pork with linguica. I like a variety of their seafood options (i'm pescatarian) and frequently go to the octopus special when they have it. ”
“ To my surprise, the octopus was Special of the Day as it is not a regular menu item. Hands down, this was a great choice. It was cooked to perfection...tender & tasty & paired perfectly with the red potatoes. This was so delicious that I wanted to devour it. Instead, I took my time & savored every bite, sending me into FOOD HEAVEN This was our 1st time here & he enjoyed his lamb chops as well. Nice pink center, tender, juicy & explosion of flavor with every bite. His palate was happy too! ”
“ The seafood dishes at Casa Portugal are especially good. The fish is always fresh and perfectly cooked, and the shellfish are plump and juicy. The meat dishes are also excellent, and the stews are particularly flavorful. The wine list at Casa Portugal features a wide selection of Portuguese wines, from light and refreshing whites to bold and full-bodied reds. The staff is knowledgeable about the wines and can help you choose the perfect pairing for your meal. Overall, Casa Portugal is a great option for anyone looking for authentic Portuguese food at a reasonable price. The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the food and wine are excellent I definitely recommend this restaurant. ”
